There is no disputing that Facebook has a massive audience. One challenge that advertisers are facing is how to truly engage Facebook users’ attention when they primarily visit the site to interact and share with friends?  Word-of-mouth is often the most effective form of advertising and channels like Facebook can help it’s viral spread, but how do you cause people to act as champions for your brand and products? You have to somehow involve your products in their social interactions.  IKEA’s advertising agency found a clever way:

Odnoklassniki VS Facebook

“I’ll find him in Odnoklassniki. He is a friend of my friend,” “OK, I’ll contact him on Facebook.” Both types of phrases have become frequent in everyday conversations.  It’s all about social media’s growing popularity and the first phrase is associated with Odnoklassniki and the other – with Facebook. Two different types of social media, with different style of work, have impact on many Georgians’ way of living.  Evidently some users are even ready to pay for various extra functions or points to their profile. In general, Odnoklassniki and Facebook somehow divide the society in big groups different environments, acquaintance and type of communication.

Odnoklassniki gifts page

Odnoklassniki was founded in March 4, 2006 and is the analogous the site Classmates.com. According to the own survey of July 9, 2009, it has 40 million users and 8 million of them visit the site per day. As for Georgia, Odnoklassniki is one of the top 10 visited sites. Advertising company, Geoplus, which provides advertisements for Odnoklassniki, says that Odnoklassniki or Odno, as it is called by its users, has 45 thousand users in Georgia. This social media is mainly oriented on people, who have not seen each other for a long time. Odnoklassniki identifies people by the school, where they studied, universities which they graduated and jobs they have/had or even by places of military service.

The social media is favored by teenagers. Tika Samkurashvili, PR manager from Georgian Marketing and Communications Company (GEPRA), is one of those who go to Odnoklassniki as they turn on their computers: “Odno is my life. It is ON from early morning till late night.”

Not everybody signs up for it to find their classmates. Tako Rusadze, who also frequently uses the social media, had other interests: “I created an account because of an young man I liked, and I stayed there.”

As for the main features, Odnoklassniki holds three of them: picture galleries, groups and chat. There are no closed profiles, which means that every user can see others’ pictures. After some time it becomes clear that the social media, which was oriented on finding classmates, transformed in a site of relationships. To address users’ interests, Odnoklassniki developed the interface and specifically – chat system. Besides, the site administration started charging for services on Odnoklassniki.

It started in 2007 when for extra tools people had to pay 5 GEL. The process went on and in the end even registration on the site became payable. But interest in the website was so high that it did not prevent people from paying for the service. “I blocked my account several months ago, I closed my account, – says Ana Gorgidze – but 2 days later registered again.”

Mark Zuckerberg

While Odnoklassniki impacts its fans in post-Soviet territory, the other social media has them all over the world. Facebook, the social media which Mark Zuckerberg created his Harvard dorm room, was launched in February 4, 2004, and is already known as the world social media.  In 5 years it changed its interface 4 times and the number of users reached 250 million. In Georgia more and more people become frequent users of this social network. Some part of it comes directly from Odnoklassniki. “To tell the truth, my friends found it tasteless and suggested me to register in Facebook” – says Nino Tefnadze, one of ex-Odno-users.

Tasteless or not, the reality is that Odnoklassniki is more popular than Facebook. More people know of the first, than the other – information service 09’s operator #26 says, she has never heard of Facebook. In spite of the fa Facebook is available in 70 languages and Georgian is among them,  it might be difficult for beginners. The main problem is to switch to Facebook, since its features are different and more complicadet from other social networks, for example, Odnoklassniki. According to Leli Blagonravova, photojournalist, Facebook is difficult for people, who don’t know social media well. Due to this, communication is far different between them.

“Facebook is a real platform to express yourself in any way as you want; – says Tika Samkurashvili, – it’s a remarkable way for self-realization. You can create your own image for others.” Facebook has variety of tools and possibilities for public relations. One can not only register himself/herself as a user, but can also have a group, brand page or fan page. The user decides which one could be suitable to introduce himself/herself or some product to audience. The main feature of Facebook is that it is informational. Users, who have some kind of news or opinions, publish them on their profile and make it visible for their friends.

Facebook in 2004-2005 Facebook in 2006 Facebook in 2007 Facebook in 2009

Unlike Odnoklassniki, Facebook does not have a good chat system. This is one of the reasons why people from Odno cannot get used to Facebook. They also find available big amount of information useless. Besides, they need entertainment and, as they say, Odnoklassniki is better in providing it to them. While talking about entertainment it’s worthy to mention that Facebook has social games like Pet Society, Mafia Wars, Farm Ville, which grow in popularity, while Odnoklassniki has none of them. And still the “Odno society” prefers their social media.

Odnoklassniki comments page

“I know that Facebook is better but I’ve got used to the situation in Odnoklassniki and I’ll leave it only if the site itself will be closed,” – says Ana Gorgidze. According to her on Odno it’s fashionable to have +5 points on every photo, presents and flash smiles. These payable details make the site more involving, eye-catching and, what’s important, more suitable for teenagers’ demands. Today it is already hard to say that Odnoklassniki is a social media that focuses on finding old classmates. Especially when many users register with nicknames, which means that they cannot be found by the search system with their real names. On the contrary, Facebook users have their real names registered in their accounts. This fact somehow creates a high level of trust. Tamaz Kupreishvili, journalist and a blogger, finds Facebook an inevitable part of his laptop: “Here it’s easy to talk to people on any theme you want. For example, if you like/dislike a TV show you can easily talk to the author and discuss or give some advice. All of this is impossible to make in Odnoklassniki.”

As for public discussion, Odnoklassniki is more closed for that. Although there are many discussion groups, like Poetry or Stop Russia, most of them appear to support the moderator’s opinion and frequently block others points of view. The same can be said about comments on pictures. Ana Gorgidze finds it flattering because “you have to write that it’s a remarkable picture, or a nice shot. If you write something bad, you might be blocked by the user.” In spite of this, Russian language site is easier for most part of Georgians rather than English language Facebook, which impacts mainly young generation.

Unfortunately, there can not be found an official sources about the number of Georgian users of Facebook. However it is evident that in one year they have become more and include even those celebrities like Kakha Bendukidze, Nika Memanishvili, Levan Ramishvili. Does this fact mean that a huge group of Odno’s fans will little-by-little disappear? Ilia Nikachadze, a Facebook user, thinks that “a lot will leave Odnoklassniki but some percent will stay there. These might be people, who really are fond of it or who find themselves older to learn English.”

Eventually, Facebook holds its position in Georgian society as an informative social media and spreads itself to large audience. As for Odnoklassniki, according to Nikachadze’s comment, it’s ruling popularity might fall if most Georgian users tend to get information rather than to chat with others. At last, the idea of two big groups of users really works.

Now Gmail, Facebook accessible on cable TV

New Delhi: There’s good news for those who use cable television services. You can now check your Gmail, watch YouTube videos or connect with friends on Facebook at the cost of the regular cable subscription of Rs. 150-200 per month – without having to pay extra for an internet connection.

Logic Eastern, a Noida-based manufacturer of cable infrastructure, has developed special set-top boxes which come with an in-built patented hardware that enables connections to Gmail, Facebook and YouTube. The company has made possible two-way flow of data, that is, from websites to cable operators to consumers and return by using the existing cellphone technology.

The company has installed large servers which download Gmail, YouTube and Facebook pages on behalf of its subscribers and pushes them on to their television screens. For now, consumers can access this service with a special remote control. However the company is developing a wi-fi keyboard that will be given along with the set-top boxes. Also, apart from the remote control, consumers can use their mobile phones to surf channels or access these websites.

Logic Eastern has already deployed 60,000 such set-top boxes across South Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar and Jammu. The company has roped in ICICI as an investor. It has bought a 20 percent stake, which is helping Logic Eastern monetise these services that even existing Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) companies and the Direct-to-Home (DTH) operators have not been able to achieve.

“We believe it will be critical for cable operators to differentiate their services by leveraging the massive bandwidth that their cables take to each home. This is something that even DTH cannot do,” says Vineet Wadhwa, Chief Technology Officer and Promoter of Logic Eastern. Instead of value-added services, the company prefers to call them ‘enhanced services.’ But how safe is accessing your email via cable? It is as safe as logging on to the internet on your home computer or laptop, says Wadhwa.

Misdiagnosed With Coma, Belgian Man Communicates After 23 Years

Very sad. Some doctors, despite fancy degrees, make a cursory examination and arrive at a prognosis.

In this case brain activity should have been mapped or at least pupil dilation examination should have been more thorough.

It is very hard to digest that that this should happen because of inefficiency of the doctors.

Many of us regard doctors next to God, forgetting that medicine is an evolving science ; most of the treatments are exploratory in Nature and these procedures have contra indications as well;some of the medications are effective with out anybody knowing why and how it cures.Classic example is grand mal seizure .We know that this seizure is triggered by sudden increase in electrical discharges in the brain and Eption is prescribed to treat this. But none knows how it works or whether it has side effects.

Because of commercialization of medicine , neither the doctor nor the patient has the time to discuss family history of the patient;nor are the patients interested in slow and steady cure or allowing body to take care with minimal supportive treatment.

It is imperative for patients to inform and discuss with the doctor, your family history, your known allergies and your symptoms.

It is also mandatory on the part of the patients to check the medicines prescribed for contra indications. If yes, inform the doctor and have the medicine changed.Even then you should also chek up on internet about the medicine’s efficacy. This may sound tedious, but will save not only money, but your life as well.

When going for surgery check before hand the anesthesia that is about to me administered and see if it it is compatible with your system for some anesthetics are incompatible.

If you had any disease prior to surgery that has resulted in Edema(especially pulmonary), Nitrous oxide is to be shunned.

While getting tests being carried out make sure at the lab, it is done for the part for which you have problem i.e.what the doctor has prescribed and see that the report is yours when you collect it.Never depute somebody else to collect it.

Also popping pills based on advertisement or based on what your doctor has prescribed earlier ailments is dangerous.

All these jobs are to be carried out by Doctors.Unfortunately,Doctors have no time for patients for they are too busy.

Story:

Conscious but unable to communicate for 23 years after a car accident that was thought to have put him into a deep coma, a quadriplegic Belgian man has described how medical science finally put an end to his agonizing years of silence.

Now able to make himself understood via a computer and specially built keyboard, the man, Rom Houben, said in the Monday issue of the German magazine Der Spiegel that when doctors made the correct diagnosis, it was like starting a second life.

“I shall never forget the day when they discovered what was truly wrong with me — it was my second birth,” Mr. Houben, now 46, was quoted as saying.

Mr. Houben, who was an engineering student at the time of the accident, lives in a care home near Brussels. He was assumed to be in a persistent vegetative state until three years ago, when the breakthrough was made.

In the interview he recalled the aftermath of the car accident that paralyzed him and the realization that no one understood that he was fully conscious.

“I screamed, but there was nothing to hear,” he said. He added that he then became a witness to his own suffering as doctors and nurses tried to speak with him until they gave up all hope.

Using brain scanning techniques, Dr. Steven Laureys, a neurological researcher at the Liège University Hospital, discovered that Mr. Houben’s cerebral cortex was still active.

On Monday, Dr. Laureys, who recently published a paper on comas, said that as many as 4 out of 10 similar patients may have been misdiagnosed.

He also described the moment he realized, for the first time that Mr. Houben was fully conscious. “It was one of those rare moments where you really see that what you are doing is useful,” he said in a telephone interview.

“It was a very big moment not just for me but for the whole team, one of those few much-needed moments” for medical professionals.

gaining followers of fans

i’m currently working on outreach for kspace.tv. my main focus being attracting more followers on their twitter page and more fans of their facebook page.

achievement so far, working with the kspace.tv team, we have done the following:

facebook: we all reached out to our facebook friends, inviting them to become fans.

total fans = 594

twitter:

working together to achieve followers via following sports/arts/music/lifestyle culture enthusiasts, journalists, bloggers and fans

total followers = 440

gaining unique followers is the goal. however, k-swiss, kspace.tv’s parent company, insists on numbers. the question here becomes, outside of the obvious already mentioned here, how does one gain more followers for each quickly? what is the real trick here?

if only companies would understand the importance of unique followers and fans. those who will read often, comment often, retweet and repost and spread the information individually online.

if only.

and will writing this blog help?

Woman Lost her medical because of Facebook

http://wp.me/pDoBk-8y

Natalie Blanchard lost her medical benefits after the related insurance company saw her Facebook profile.  Blanchard was on paid sick leave from her job after being diagnosed with depression.  She posted a photo of herself vacationing on a beach.  The insurance company cut her sick pay claiming she is no longer depressed.

It’s more than just your bosses that may check up on your facebook.  Your audience is much more than you may realize.  There are ways for certain networks and organizations to see more into your profile than your security settings might allow.  The flow of information is becoming wider and quicker.  The flow is creating less distance between users and their audience.

The issue here is identifying the line of privacy.  The insurance company invaded her privacy and drew conclusions.  I wouldn’t doubt if Canadian Natalie Blanchard decides to counter sue and actually has a good case. (JS)

Sempre connesso, perchè no!

Thanks?

So you are all familiar with the Facebook interface – obviously the comment at the bottom came first, then I replied and it comes back down into a tree of comments.

I am well aware I did not censor the name “misa”. I’m fine with that. In one of the posts before I think I was writing about sasa.com and I left out the word “know”. Ugh I should stop being so pickeh D:

Anyway, random comments. Oh before I talk about that, check out the blobs of colour I used to screen their avatars <3

I can never really understand the idea of random comments, but then without them, life would be so boring. But the thing is, sometimes when there is a comment as short and ambiguous as that, I’m not really sure what their purpose was. Did they expect me to reply and actually say who I was, or were they hoping for their own friend (in this case, I suspect relative) to reply them? Either way, I’m not going to reply, and his relative has a 50% chance of replying. Either way, whatevers.

This is why I am so wary when I change my display picture. Seems like some people are very sharp with their eyes when they notice a display picture change.

ANYWAY.

This is gonna be gross but I have this scratch on the inside of my mouth and it hurtttttsssss like crazy. Usually with some water these things go away, but it’s not even a bump or an ulcer – it’s a friggin scratch! I can’t even wash my face properly because I can’t rub or else it will hurt Oh well, mouthwash and cotton tips tonight and hopefully it heals and goes away.

I think also today was about the 2nd or 3rd time I managed to sleep sitting up ish I was so bored in the living room (evacuated the computer and shut it down after hearing thunder), that I actually fell asleep.

Oh I’m so random. Toodaloo!

AARP guidelines for Facebook and Twitter

You must promise not to laugh. I really did not go the AARP site looking for info, I just searched on “twitter” to see what came up. Actually, whatI found was some good, common sense advice about entering into the social media world that applies whatever a person’s age.

In “A Social Networking Primer,” by Don Wilmott (AARP.org, July 2009), the step-by-step get started tips are very helpful. This is accompanied by an AARP magazine “Online Extra” that covers several aspects of social networking, from do’s and don’ts on Facebook to the best ways to “cast one’s net” to build a network.

That AARP is including quite a bit of content related to social media further underscores the growth in the older demographics on Facebook and Twitter.

Playstation 3.10 Firmware Brings Social Networking Features

The new PlayStation 3 firmware 3.10 update, set to be launched later this week, will have a Facebook application, Sony has confirmed, proving the leaked images of Facebook integration with the PS3 platform.

The update will allow the players to link their Facebook accounts to their PlayStation Network account providing them with an option to set auto updates of Trophy and PlayStation Store activity to Facebook News Feed.

Eric Lempel, PlayStation Network Operations director, commented in a blog post on Sony’s official PlayStation blog that the collaboration with the popular social networking website was only a beginning and the users can expect further new features in the future that will enhance their PS3 experience.

The gaming console market has witnessed a frenzied competition amongst it top players for increasing their market share and after Microsoft’s XBOX 360 integration with Facebook, it was only a matter of time that Sony came up with a similar update.

It has also been reported that the new firmware will have an update for the Photo app allowing easier viewing of images on the gaming console. The users will also be able to choose colors of their PlayStation Network ID and the PSN friends list according to their preferences.

Start Tweeting with BFL Twitter Resources

BFL has finally reached the 21st century — we’ve created a library Twitter account! You can follow us at bownhlibrary if you already have a Twitter account, but if you don’t or are asking why would the library want a Twitter account, keep reading!

One of the things that we’re trying to do is communicate more effectively and frequently with Bow residents and our community.  The staff at the library wants to hear what people want to do/read/listen to so that we can help you.  Bottom line is that’s why we’re here.  This blog is one avenue to reach more people with information they want on new books, DVDs, and music.  The library’s Facebook page is another way we reach a specific segment of our patrons — Bow teens.  Twitter complements both by allowing up-to-the-minute information to be posted not only to other Twitter users, but also to the library’s web site homepage.  For example, when our online library catalog was unavailable through the web on a Sunday due to maintenance, I quickly tweeted a message so that those visiting our web site would see right away that the catalog was unavailable and that we were aware of it.  We’ve also linked our blog and Facebook page to our Twitter account, meaning that our posts to the blog and Facebook will appear in Twitter when they are posted.  All of this will help us get the same information out to different segments of our users at the same time.

So, how can you start tweeting?  Check out two new books available here: Twitter for Dummies by Laura Fitton and Twitter Book by Tim O’Reilly.  Fitton resides in MA and has given presentations in NH about social networking and Twitter.  The book is chock full of information to not only get you set up, but also details important points such as the etiquette involved in re-tweeting (RT) and how to send a link using Bit.ly or TinyURL.  O’Reilly’s book is also terrific, full of tips and tricks to make the most of Twitter.  There are a variety of magazine resources as well, such as “How to Avoid Facebook & Twitter Disasters” from the August 2009 issue of PC World [we copied this and gave it to all of our Teen Advisory Board members].   One helpful online resource is a blog post by Michael Hyatt, “The Beginner’s Guide to Twitter.”  There are many others – feel free to share them as comments to this post if they are helpful to you.

I’m more than willing to walk library patrons through setting up a Facebook, Twitter, or blog account.  Please get in touch with me — you too can leap into the 21st century!

20 questions

It’s a rare occurrence when there is a straight forward question and answer between Will and his friends.  Typically the question is delivered in a multiple choice format, e.g., “Guess what was so-and-so’s excuse for not hanging out tonight…. was it:  A) There is a professional family photo shoot in the morning; B) his mother in law needs him to take her to the gynecologist; C) He promised his wife he’d watch the So You Think You Can Dance finale live; or D) he has to go to the Gymboree graduation.”  We all then get to weigh the validity of each statement, come up with our guesses, then inevitably laugh at the real answer.

I personally love it, and I actively engage in and love creating my own multiple choices.  It’s even fun when it’s something as simple as guessing the name of the waiter (“Is it A)  Jebediah; B) Orion; C) Darnell or D) Mikhail”).

Today I got to overhear Will on the phone with our friend as he was figuring out the answer to one of the most fun reoccurring questions… “Guess who friended me on Facebook?” However today must’ve been a slow day at all the offices, because instead of multiple choice, he had Will play 20 questions.

Block out from 3-4 on your calendar... it's time to play "Guess who friended me on Facebook". Note: this dude is not an actual friend of mine

How I wish I the video recorder out, because Will’s side of the conversation went along the lines of:

“Is it a girl?”

“From high school?”

“Our year?”

“What about our elementary school, did she go there?”

“Was she friendly with Mike?”

“Rachel Greenfeld!”*

“No?  Ok. Um, Was she cooler than us?”

“Was she hot?”

“Is she still hot?”  [lots of laughter while there is some follow through to this question on the other side of the conversation]

“Was she a cheerleader?”

“Um… Did you ever take her to see Les Mis?”

“OK, so she’s our age, was hot, may or may not have been a cheerleader, she is not friendly with Mike, you don’t think she was any cooler than us, and you never took her to a Broadway play…  Danielle Adelstein!”*

“No? Hmm… what, am I at question 11?  Did… she work in Sunrise Mall?”

“Did she work in the Gap?”

You get the picture… I don’t know if this translates, but I was hysterical.  I highly recommend bringing back 20 questions to your day-to-day, it makes things more interesting.

* No names of known people were used in this blog post.  If you are a Rachel Greenfeld or Danielle Adelstein who found this when you googled yourself, rest assured that this was a random concoction of likely Long Island Jewish girls names born between 1974- 1979.

Kenyataan Media: Ahli PAS Kena Bijak Menghadapi Fitnah Media

Saya tertarik dengan kenyataan media Ketua Penerangan PAS, Ustaz Idris Ahmad berhubung dengan perkara ini. Berikut adalah sedutan  kenyataan beliau dalam laman web rasmi parti tersebut (http://www.pas.org.my);

A picture is worth a 1000 words, a Social Video even more

Video broadcasts have proven to be one of the most effective advertising tools for the entertainment industry. Broadcasts help promote and share events, news, viewpoints or stories to the world.

Whether you are in Silicon Valley, in Hollywood or at a sports event, or even if you are a filmmaker, you can promote using the power of Facebook and its continually growing audience. This is one way you can reach old and new fans.

As a producer, you can add social video content to a broadcast of an event like the new Star Trek exhibit at San Jose’s Tech Museum or Michael Jackson’s This is It premiere or your favorite football team. After an initial broadcast, you can entertain your original fans or attract new audiences via Facebook with fresh social video content that adds value. All you need is an Internet connection, a camera and microphone. Using the power of Facebook and live, interactive social video broadcasts, you are able to grow your audience.

Original shows can be archived, and then days, or weeks later, you can add more live content and archived broadcasts. By using the power of Facebook with Vpype social video application, Vpype Live Broadcaster, you can attract more viewers.

Facebook Fan Pages

Have you thought about creating a Facebook Fan Page as a way to connect with your customers, provide updates, share promotions. Here are 3 examples of facebook fan pages that I follow, these groups have large followings and use facebook in unique ways to build stronger connections with their communities.

Starbucks
With over 4 million fans, Starbucks uses facebook to let their community know about promotions and free Starbucks giveaways. They also use facebook for humanitarian causes and fundraising activity such as world AIDS day. Follow Starbucks

Metallica
With 2.3 million fans the legendary heavy metal band continues to rock using facebook to update fans on shows with pictures recent events. This takes the virtual groupies to a new level where metal fans can stay connected with their icons and re-live their concerts virtually. Follow Metallica

NBA
With 1.5 million fans and growing the NBA gets bball fans excited with posts of throwback clips of memorable NBA moments that typically stir up a lot of fan commentary and interaction. With the NBA season just underway, look for more hoops action for fans to follow. Follow the NBA

I find it useful to learn how other businesses and groups use social media to do marketing and connect with their customers. Let me know if you have some examples of your own of good uses of social media marketing on Facebook that you follow.

Facebook Poll Launches Secret Service Investigation

If you are a developer, you better watch the content you post on Facebook or else you could be on the receiving end of a Secret Service investigation.  This has occurred after a third party application was pulled that allowed users to create Facebook Polls.  A recent poll that was placed on Facebook posing the following question: “Should President Obama be killed?”

The answers to the poll were either “yes,” “maybe,” “if he cuts my healthcare” and “no.”  The Secret Service Agency spokesman James Mackin has said an investigation has been launched because of the poll.  Facebook users reported the poll to the site owners and it was quickly taken down.  The application has been suspended until the developer can prove that they can better filter the content generated by the poll creator.  Facebook handles these situations by asking users to police the site and flag any inappropriate content.

It appears that the application was created over the weekend and first appeared on the developer’s page Advanced Alien Technology.  The user that created the poll has yet to be named.

How Could I Ever Forget You?

Even before I graduated high school or college I had visions of a glorious return to my old sanctuaries, at my reunions. I think everybody, on some level, dreams of returning to their former stomping grounds with tales of adventure and stories from the land of milk and honey. Maybe its a little egocentric but I think we all have the urge to toot our own horns at times. There’s also the exciting element of getting to catch up with the people you once thought you couldn’t live without. Everyone gets to swap pictures, tell tales and get caught up on the past. The only problem now, in today’s world, is already have access to all of that information on Facebook and MySpace.

What is there to look forward to and why in God’s name would I spend all the money to fly to my hometown to hear my old friends vocalize what I just got done reading a week ago online. It almost disgusts me how much I know about people now. Even people  I never got to know, high school and college alike, have popped up in my life and gotten to know me better than some of the people I’ve bonded with. Of course it’s great that the “social networking” sites have allowed everyone to meet so many new people but at the same time it has taken away so much of the mystery of life.

Is that girl single? Just the internet. Don’t have the courage to ignite the conversation in person? Meet them online. Don’t have the money to visit your old friends? Video chat online. At times if you sit back and think about it maybe we’re not better off with all the new technologies. Maybe somewhere along the line we forgot what it meant to be human. So many people, at times even me included, have locked ourselves away on our computer for so long that we forgot where we were sitting in the first place.

Do I want to lose touch with all the people I’ve met in the past? Of course not. I love that no matter how many times I move and however many new alliances I form, I can keep everyone at my side. If you needed any more of a justification for the digital society we’re created – I’m sorry, there isn’t one better. We have all fallen in love too many times and bonded with too many friends to keep up with past flames and allies without these glorious sites. Are we starting to venture a bit into the dark side? Perhaps – but if you have to take the good with the bad – I think we’re doing alright.

So when 2015 rolls around and I’m invited to my first round of reunions [hopefully at Alvirne where I spent most of my high school years] I hope I have the desire to go. I hope there is a little more mystery in the air. Of course by then it’ll have been so long since I’ve look my old peers face-to-face that I can hardly imagine resisting the chance to relive the days that have passed. I just pray that the internet and whatever technologies come next don’t ruin that anymore than they have. I love meeting new people, and the ones I’ve met through internet sources have often turned into great friends and even more so with the old friends it’s helped me reconnect with. I don’t hate it, I don’t want it to disappear, I just want to know a little bit less about everyone so maybe we’ll send less Facebook chats, emails, texts, and twitter messages. Maybe, and only maybe, we’ll start using our voices just a little bit more.
