Bikin Orang Jadi Kurang Cerdas

Seorang ahli dalam masalah ingatan mengatakan, sebagian jejaring sosial dapat membuat orang jadi kurang cerdas, sementara yang lain dapat meningkatkan kemampuan orang untuk mengingat banyak hal, demikian laporan pers baru-baru ini.

Dr. Tracy Alloway, psikolog di Stirling University, mengatakan, beberapa jejaring, seperti Facebook, sesungguhnya mungkin meningkatkan daya kerja ingatan karena semua jejaring tersebut mengharuskan orang menyimpan banyak informasi di dalam kepala mereka. Namun wanita ahli ilmu jiwa itu menyatakan fenomena seperti Twitter malah mungkin mengurangi kemampuan orang untuk mengingat banyak hal.

“Twitter dapat menimbulkan bahaya karena jejaring tersebut menghasilkan arus informasi setiap detik sementara orang tak memiliki peluang untuk memproses atau memanipulasi informasi itu,” kata Alloway seperti dikutip AFP.

Ia juga menyalahkan “tirani teknologi” yang telah mengurangi kebutuhan orang untuk mengingat banyak hal. Hubungan cepat pada telefon genggam berarti tak banyak perlu terikat komitmen untuk mengingat angka. Dan ia mengatakan menonton televisi juga meningkatkan resiko sindrom defisit perhatian.

Namun, ia mengatakan ada cara untuk meningkatkan kemampuan seseorang untuk mengingat informasi.

“Tak peduli apakah ibu anda meninggalkan sekolah pada usia 15 atau meraih PhD, itu adalah tingkat ladang permainan. Bukan hanya daya kerja ingatan memiliki dampak besar pada setiap aspek kehidupan pekerjaan kita tapi sekarang ada bukti yang menggairahkan bahwa kita dapat melatih dan meningkatnya,” kata Dr. Alloway, yang telah menemukan permainan on-line yang dapat meningkatkan daya kerja ingatan.

Dr. Alloway menyatakan itu mungkin membantu generasi muda mengembangkan ketrampilan daya kerja ingatan serta membantu memerangi hilangnya ingatan pada diri orang yang berusia lanjut.

Strangely enough, my single most popular post on this blog has been career-oriented, and has about half of my site’s lifetime hits.

This brings me to today’s very straightforward topic…

SOCIAL NETWORKS!

Keep them separate.

That’s about it.

Long story short: I’ve had Facebook since 2004, added my boss and some other higher-ups a while after I got my salaried position, and then unfriended them six months later.

Why? Because there’s absolutely no need for me to be “friends” with them on a social site.

First, and most importantly, being Facebook friends with my boss forced me to continually worry about what I put on my site. If I was annoyed with work, I couldn’t put it in my status. If I friended one co-worker, I probably had to friend them all. Even how I described my job may or may not be eyebrow-raising to a superior. So, why worry about it at all? Delete!

Second of all, I see my coworkers at least five days a week, and usually more often. What the hell do we need to be cyberfriends for?

THE PRESCRIPTION: We now have work-based networks like LinkedIn. Keep different accounts for your “social” social networks and “work” social networks, so you don’t need to continually worry about which privacy settings are for whom, or, worse, you DON’T worry about it and end up making a major CLM (career-limiting move).

In the end, if you’re that obsessed with Facebook friending your boss, you’re probably not mature or socially savvy enough to move up the corporate ladder, anyway.

Nielsen: Consumers spending nearly 20% of online time socially - Social Marketing - BizReport

When it comes to social networking, more consumers are doing it and doing it for longer periods of time. The latest numbers from Nielsen Online indicate that consumers spend 17% of their online time with social networks in August. That is an 11% increase over 2008.

"While video and text content remain central to the Web experience – the desire
of online consumers to connect, communicate and share is increasingly driving
the medium’s growth."

Micro-blogging sites such as Twitter, blogs, and networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn have all seen consumers increase the amount of time spent communicating with friends, family and co-workers, and advertisers have taken notice. Not only have consumers upped the time spent socially but marketers have increased the amount of money they spend in the social space.

Nielsen’s report suggests that marketers increased their social spending by more than 110% between August 2008 and August 2009; last month marketers spend $108 million on social marketing, indicating that marketers’ fears about social marketing have been upended or at least put on the back-burner as more consumers latch on to social networking.

"The considerable increases we’ve seen in ad spending over the past
year suggest that many of these concerns have subsided or been addressed. In
particular, advertisers that want to connect with core fan bases, such as movie
studios, are allocating more and more dollars to online communities like Facebook
and MySpace, where they can engage in an ongoing dialog with their target market," said Gibs.

Facebook and MySpace are getting the bulk of the ad buys in the social space. Facebook received most of the automotive, B-to-B and consumer goods ad spend while MySpace cornered the bulk of the entertainment, financial services and hardware/electronics advertising dollars.

Meet: Cathy Nguyen

I met Cathy almost a year ago at my cousin’s wedding in California last December. She was one of the lead vocalists in the band performing and she blew us all away with her voice. A couple months after the wedding, my brother and I were reminicing about that night and wondered what the name of the band from that night was when we somehow stumbled upon Cathy’s YouTube page. Little did we know that she was basically a YouTube celebrity with her recordings of covers and even some of her original songs.

Q: Cathy, how old are you and where are you from?

Cathy Nguyen: I am 21 and I am from West Covina, California. Although, my family & I moved to Chino about 2 years ago, so that’s where I currently reside now.

Q: When did you first begin singing and was it just for fun or could you see this as a possible career?

C: I first started singing pretty much when I was able to talk. I remember my mom teaching me songs as I was growing up & that’s all I’ve been doing since. I never really considered on actually pursuing music as a career until my senior year of high school. I joined choir for the first time & absolutely loved it. I tried out for my first solo & since then, I must say, I’ve finally stepped out of my comfort zone & began performing more, whether it be at church or at a choir concert. But now, of course, weighing all the options, and looking pros & cons of pursuing music, I’ve decided not to go all the way. I’m really content with where I stand right now in regards to music.

Q: I love the covers you have done! In my opinion your version of Keri Hilson’s “Knock You Down,” is way better than the original. You have a million views on that video and 2 million views on your “I’m Yours” cover. That’s pretty impressive! Were you shocked when you realized that you were becoming YouTube’s next superstar?

C: Haha! Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. You know, I never imagined ever being able to get that many views on these dorky videos that I post, so I definitely was shocked. I’m STILL shocked actually! I’ve been so blessed ever since all this YouTube madness. Opportunities to do what I love began to increase and now, I have an event to perform at nearly once a week! To think, I started off like everyone else, WATCHING videos of people singing & performing, looking up to these people & enjoying watching their love & passion for music. & clearly, with the support of my family & friends, & really just through word of mouth, here I am, living my dream! I mean, not as a “Youtube superstar” haha, but I mean, being able to meet & work with these wonderful & talented singer/songwriters that I’ve watched & was [& still am!], inspired by.

Q: What is your favorite song to cover?

C: I have fun with every song that I choose to cover, but if I had to choose, I’d have to say “Lucky,” by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat. I love performing that with AJ Rafael.

Q: Who were your influences growing up?

C: I grew up listening to the typical boy bands & pop singers such as *NSYNC or Christina Aguilera. Haha! I mean, who didn’t? I grew up enjoying listening & singing to their music. My influences now though, would include, Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles, Alicia Keys, & Taylor Swift. =]

Q: If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

C: Ooh. That’s a tough question. I’d be so honored to collaborate with ANYONE actually!

Q: Are you doing some shows here and there or have you done any tours at all? If you do decide to do a tour, can I be your tour manager? Hahah

C: Yes, you can! =P Yeah, I’ve been performing here & there around California for the past year, ranging from birthday parties, to a benefit concert at a high school or university, to a coffee house or a church praise event. All my shows have been in California though. I’d love to do a tour & I’ve even gotten offers to perform outside of the state, but I’m currently unavailable to do that at the moment.

Q: What is a typical day for Cathy Nguyen?

C: My typical day usually consists of me sitting in front of my computer for hours checking updates & comments on all the social networking websites, responding to performance emails, & then end up being late to school or work, coming home from work/school & pretty much start doing the same thing all over again. haha! & definitely when I have the chance to, I hang out with my friends.

Q: Do you believe having your YouTube account, Twitter and Facebook Fan Page has helped you connect more with your fans or listeners?

C: Yes of course! All these social networking sites have allowed me to connect & talk to my supporters. I read them all and I try to respond back to everyone, but it does get overwhelming for me. I’ve been so blessed & I am so grateful for all the love & support I have. I really appreciate it!

Q: Some of your video covers have included your friends as well; do you see yourself being more as a soloist or with a band?

C: I love singing & performing with other people because I’m so self-conscious & I know that when I sing with other people, the attention isn’t all on me. But if I had to choose, I would probably see myself as being more of a soloist though, either that or with one other person. I don’t see myself in a band, although, that’d be pretty interesting!

Q: What are you listening to these days and who would you suggest my readers start listening to, besides you of course!

C: I used to listen to a lot of the artists on the radio, but honestly these days, I know so little of those outside music. I listen to more of my friends’ music than anyone else actually. I would for sure suggest anyone to listen to their music! AJ Rafael, Passion, Gabe Bondoc, Melissa Polinar & Jane Lui, are just a few of the people I’ve been inspired by. They are amazing, really. They really make you appreciate true music.

Q: Where can we expect to see you next Cathy?

C: Well, you can probably see me next on a YouTube video! haha. Other than that, I have a few shows lined up for the next couple of months. All that information will be updated soon on my Myspace music page.

Kemaren (akhirnya) gw buat facebook, itu juga setelah gw baca berita tentang joko anwar bugil di Circle K …hubungannya?… katanya promise is a promise mr. politican!

Gw udah janji sama temen gw ntar kalo sempet gw buat facebook tapi entah kenapa walopun tiap hari online hati gw gak tergerak ke situs itu, hasilnya setelah gw buat ternyata inbox gw jadi gak keruan gitu isinya…

Salah gw sih gak gw atur2 dlu tapi skrg gak masalah, semua email yg ada kata facebook, masuk ke spam

gw jadi kepikiran nih, ada gak cara or sofware buat mengkategorikan inbox pada email? atau ada gak situs yg nyediain fasilitas itu? gw kan pikun, makanya email gw yang eksis cuma satu, dan itulah sebabnya semua alamat gw di dunia maya selalu alinananty atau ujungnya ditambah 09 kalo ada yg sama. Back to email, selama ini email yg dari wordpress atau situs2 lain dimana gw jadi member,selalu gw masukin spam. kadang kalo lg nganggur bru gw intip2.

Cosas que odio de la red

HellO!

Pues aqui nadamas escribo para sacar esas ideas locas de mi cabeza, no tengo ahorita a la mano en donde sacarlas ni en donde desahogarme mas q en este rincon en la web… en este momento… claro. Solo quiero contar unas de las cosas que me desagradan un buen (Arghh) i una de ellas es el Correo Cadena! Si! esos correos en los que te dicen que si no lo reenvías “te irá mal en el amor” , “Tendrás mala suerte”, etcetera, todo esto me parece una grandiosa estupidez, hay uno q otro que si esta bueno, o interesante, vale la pena reenviarlo, o al menos leerlo, perO nadamás. Parafraseando a un amigo, hasta absurdo suena que un correo defina tu destino, caramba. pero que tal cuando te agregan al messenller, te chateas y al ratote te meten un spyware i te friegan la PeCe? Dios Mio, para a estos individuos n00bs, es lo unico que puedo alcanzar a decir, Wow… nada interesante, bueno   si, Otra cosa que tambien me malhumora de a tiro, es el que te aparezcan las ventanitas esas de “x persona” acaba de iniciar sesion. Bueno, eso es mas que informativo, Ok, hasta ahi, ee perO cuando te aparecen cartelitos de a 3 o 4 una vez, puedo pensar “Ohh está fallando su msn o internet, puesto que nos aguantamos, perO cuando hay desos weyes q se desconectan y conectan solo para que medio mundo sepa que esta ahi i le hablen , aparecen carteles de estos mismos que solo me tapan el escritorio y a cada rato molestan con su clasico “tun”, “tun”, “tun” Arghhh! Esto suele ser demasiado madreador… y mas si estoy escuchando musica, al menos le quito el sonido o haber como me deskito en ese rato del/la tip@ que esté haciendo eso. Dios miO ! La tercer cosa que me  hipermolesta es esa cosa de que te taggen a lo tarugo en el Feisbuc (Facebook) bueno, puesto a que puedes aparecer en alguna foto o de estas cosas para que le pongas una opinion o algo asi, esta bien, ok, me agradan. Pero cuando hay gentes de esas que dicen “Ay, no tengo metroflog, perO si subo foto al Feisbuc, me firmas??” Osea, mejor quedate con tu metroflog que estas mejor ahiii…. Si! esO es lo qe mejor se me ocurre decir! DiOs! Esta padre que te taggeen cuando en esa foto apareces, esta bien q te taggeen cuando tienen una opinion sobre ti, etcetera, ePero cuando subes foto sobre cualquier cosita, pues nambeee! nose valee:!!! DiOs! Otra cosa… Los mugres Bots del Twitter cuando te mandan una invitacion  a que “x persona” te esta siguiendo en twitter” bueno, vas, miras su perfil y dices ‘¿lo sigo o no? (Obvio que si no te parece interesante no lo seguiras, ) perO miras “ 0 following, 321 followers” (Ojo, esto es un ejemplo) pues dices nambe, ni lo sigo ni nada, "! Dios! como diablos va a tener chiste u o efectividad ! esto de la Web 2.0 te puede dar Web@ 2.0 “!! Arghh-….  Hasta da asco y me dan ganas de patear la PeCe de coraje! rayos. Tambien odio cuando se cae el servidor pajarero me cabreo de a mauser! , perO esas ya serían otras cuestiones. Tambien odio los que me mandan links para pedirme solamente, Que les firme el metroflog! Osease, puedO pasar por tu metro en ese rato, puede que no, iO pasaré (pasaba, porque ahorita ya no tengo metro ) i pues tambien me molesta, asi que en un arranque, hace poco cuando me cortaron el internet cancelé mis metroflogs. Confieso que me dolió por firmas de amigos y amigas que tenía en ese lugar, perO pues no se puede! Chavos, lectores, lectoras, chavas, desde ahora los invito a que hagan de nuestra internet un lugar ameno y sin tanta basura en la red, ya que por eso la madre de la internet ya no alcanza para surtirnos! diOs, mejor me largo hANTes de que empiece a decir mama”%#! e insulte a alguien…

To those who have provided assistance after the recent theft of our equipment and supplies:

HomeFur-ever would like to extend our deepest gratitude to those who have provided us with equipment & supply donations, cash donations and offers to volunteer assistance during this time of extreme need. 

While a situation as we recently experienced with the theft of all of our equipment and supplies is never easy to deal with or to overcome (see news release and media coverage if you are unfamiliar with our recent situation), we are VERY proud to say that the assistance we have received from the Detroit community has helped us to continue the care of our animals, and has shown a very positive side of the Detroit metro area.  Additionally, we have received substantial support from outside the Detroit community as a result of our participation on Twitter and Facebook; and we would like our new friends to know how very appreciative we are of their well-wishes, assistance and support.  In times like these the support of your friends – new or old – gives you the strength to do what needs to be done in spite of the obstacles!

Though the gifts we’ve received, large and small, have been too numerous to list here individually, we hope that every group and individual who has offered that assistance to us will accept our sincere thanks on behalf of our group and the animals we care for.

As one might expect, the need continues as we have a long way to go to recover, and to replace what was taken from us and our animals.  However, we are very confident  that our friends and animal-lovers both inside and outside the Detroit community will help us to obtain everything we need to insure that our work helping animals can continue without interuption.

Everyday Filler #8: FaceBook Is Down and This Guy Is An Idiot

FaceBook is down, I’m in a dilemma, I got a story none of you guys will care to hear, and you don’t exist to me.

Yeah, for some reason Facebook is down, which is a very big in convenience since I need to satisfy a poker problem and checkout stuff about people I don’t regularly care about. Basically why I can’t go on is that damn message saying that the site is going under maintenance. Maintenance my ass. I had a friends sign in as himself and he was able to get on no problem. This is a big fucking disappointment because I’m an indirect stalker I stalk my friends like I’m waiting for them to go into a dark alley… I’m kidding by the way, it’s kind of inconvenient in a way that I can’t do my thing on an hourly basis.

To continue with this blog filler is a story, it’s a story of a boy who tends to be an idiot, with idiot being an understatement. This is the basic comedy where a kid at a new school is basically a loser kid at a new school his friends convinced him to go to and he falls in love with a girl who ultimately has a boyfriend. To tell you the truth this not a really funny just entertaining to the abrasive people like myself who get a kick out of hearing this story again and again. So basically our main character, we will call him MD, likes a girl with a crazy ass boyfriend, basically her kind of crazy. Note to you guys that this guy has been shot down by every girl he has tried to get with, and they weren’t that pretty, me being the abrasive bastard I am, I would say the women he went for are 2s on a scale of 10. So now this how the girl finds out MD like her. What happened was that someone went up to her boyfriend and told him that he liked her girlfriend, being how every boyfriend is, he literally yelled in the class (according to my sources that) he will kill MD. Speaking of sources a lot of them knew him and they even saw the contemplated murder weapon to be, it was knife by the way. So how it ended as I first heard was that the boyfriend calm down but he never wanted to see the dude’s face again. How it was told to me this year was that MD told the police that the man has made a death threat against him. Since nothing was substantial the boy friend was let off with an extreme warning followed by a “restraining order”. So the girl called MD and basically he cried like a little bitch, literally I don’t why he cried but she wasn’t his.

So in all sakes, don’t try to steal a girl from another dude especially if he is your bro, I mean what are going to do when the dude finds out. Also stealing is wrong because in the end it’s going to bite you in the ass.

Lastly there is nothing to more to fill in so in the end always remember this because every guy knows of this already.

Facebook vient d’inaugurer leur nouveau HeadQuarters à Palo Alto. Les nouveaux bureaux sont situés dans un ancien laboratoire dans une structure de 150 000 pieds carrés. Fait intéressant à noter : les bureaux ont été designé par la boîte Studio O+A et sont le premier projet complété sous le Palo Alto’s 2008 Green Building Ordinance qui focus sur le développement durable, entre autres.

Selling Facebook Book with Sex

Wandering in Barnes & Noble today I noticed a new non-fiction book called, The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal. The cover looked like something I remember for the Nanny Diaries or some other kind of chick lit.The author is Ben Mezrich of Bringing Down the House fame.

It seems reviewers of the book on Amazon are equally mixed. I am probably not going to read this one, but I am happy to see campus based entrepreneurs getting the attention of major non-fiction writers. BTW, sales of the book on Amazon are doing pretty well in various business categories. Let us know what you think if you read it.

Redes sociales y herramientas: Yoono

Vengo usando Yoono desde que salió. Me parece una estupenda herramienta para mantenerte al día de lo que sucede en tus redes sociales. Aún le faltan algunas redes interesantes, pero se integra con facebook, twitter, myspace, flickr, aim, yahoo messenger, google talk y msn de forma tal que facilita la comunicación en un mismo entorno, consigue que de un vistazo rápido pueda visualizar qué ocurre.

Hay dos cosas que uso constantemente, recibo muchísima información en tiempo real a través de mis redes y no siempre puedo ver esos enlaces ni esos artículos en ese mismo momento. Para ello han incluido un excelente widget que se llama Web Notes y que te permite arrastrar imágenes, textos, vídeos, enlaces… que se guardan para que puedas visionar todo en el momento adecuado.

También quiero destacar la opción Share que permite compartir en tus redes favoritas o bien el enlace de la página que estés visitando o bien los items seleccionados con el cursor del ratón, es genial.

La pelicula de facebook?

Saludos usuarios,  debo admitir que no soy lo que se llamaria un usuario adicto a facebook y por lo tanto nose que tan maravilloso es, eh escuchado y leido que ya va por 300 millones de usuarios, pero de hay a hacer una pelicula sobre esta red social si que me sorprende.

En esta pelicula ya se han confirmado las actuaciones de Jesse Eisenberg (super bad, zombieland), Justin Timberlake ( ustedes saben quien es), Andrew Garfield (Boy A). Estos personajes interpretaran a los estudiantes que crearon facebook.

Esperemos que esta pelicula valga un poco la pena, desde ahora no me hago muchas esperanzas pero esperemos mas informacion sobre ella.

Facebook does data deal with Nielsen

Facebook Inc. plans to announce a deal with online measurement company Nielsen Co., in a step to address advertisers’ frustration with measuring how ads perform on the social network.

Under the partnership, Facebook will begin polling users about some of the display ads it runs on its site, such as banner promoting a movie release.

Facebook will provide that data, including responses from those who didn’t see an ad, to Nielsen, which will package it for advertisers.

Facebook: La tribu de 300 millones de personas

Esta semana Mark Zuckerberg, creador de Facebook (Fb), anunció que ésta red social administrada por un puñado de ingenieros llegó a los 300 millones de usuarios. 300 millones de personas que aprenden, discuten, comparten, conquistan, envidian, venden, se reencuentran, aman, cuestionan, sueñan, odian, acuerdan, mienten, gozan, sufren, celan y seducen a otras personas por este medio. El animal humano es una especie extraordinaria.

Con Fb se puede abarcar territorialidad, tener el control y cercanía con tu grupo de amigos, con tu “fan” o “líder”, con tu pareja, con el otro, con el desconocido.

Las preguntas obligadas son: ¿cómo puede ser que 300,000,000 de personas “compren” un producto o servicio? ¿Cuál es la magia de Fb? ¿Cuál es su encanto? ¿Cuál es el secreto?

El secreto responde a la misma razón por la cual una sola persona inventó Fb. Mark Zuckerberg tenía la necesidad –en primera instancia- de “seducir” a una (o unas) de sus compañeras de la Universidad de Harvard (véase el libro “Billonarios por Accidente”), de ser parte del “grupo popular”. Posteriormente, cuando el éxito de su proyecto era inexorable, su ambición fue la de ser famoso, exitoso, poderoso e inmensamente rico.

Fb es amado por lo humano porque manifiesta nuestro instinto de caza. El cerebro reptiliano que todos y cada uno de nosotros conllevamos, nos lleva a actuar con base en la información que durante millones de años nuestros genes han guardado y modificado para sobrevivir. Nuestra hambre tribal (de ser parte de tribus), de reconocernos en el otro, de replicarnos, de cooperar, de acumular y de pertenecer es “natura reptiliana”.

Fb cubre estas y otras necesidades, pero con menores costos de transacción y menores tiempos de espera. Sentarse ante el teclado, identificarse con una clave única para “entrar al juego” (somos homo-ludens) e inmediatamente tener la oportunidad de ser invadidos por símbolos ancestrales: “confirmar al otro”, “ser confirmado”. El juego nos invita a “acumular” amigos, redes (tribus), fans, puntos.

Cuando construyes tu perfil, lo profano y lo sagrado se entrelazan. Las preguntas clave pretenden definirte e identificar el mundo de tus aspiraciones: “tu frase”, “tu lema”, “tu motto”, “tu ideología”, “tu religión”, “tu pertenencia”, “tus clanes”, “tus ritos” y “tu música”. Todo es una reconstrucción de ti, quizás de un mejor tú.

La cacería se conjuga con el juego del riesgo: ¿Quién está conectado? ¿Cómo lo aproximo? ¿Es un mejor amigo(a)? ¿Cómo es su foto? ¿Disparo? ¿Contesto? ¿Lo re-encuentro? La genealogía instintiva de caza explica por qué aun cuando parece irracional el costo-beneficio de involucrarse y reasignarle tantos recursos y tiempo a Fb, a los humanos nos brinda utilidad (felicidad) neta (beneficio al hacerlo).

Mas el juego es real, tribal. El “bluf” en la foto, en la palabra, en el mensaje es una necesidad primitiva

Existe peligro, el riesgo que implica hacer públicos datos personales y dar a conocer a desconocidos. Como con los animales no humanos, el riesgo de sobresalir para replicarnos, es ser depredado por el otro.

Así como las tribus tienen reglas que mitigan riesgos y les permiten sobrevivir a la autodestrucción. La tribu de las tribus –es decir Fb- cuenta con un orden propio y certero, con políticas de privacidad y sanciones para quienes abusen de las aplicaciones que van desde “denuncia este comentario” con la consecuente eliminación del mismo, hasta la eliminación de una cuenta por abuso sistemático. Romper las reglas, irrumpir en su orden significa atentar contra la tribu, por ello quien atenta contra la tribu debe ser expulsado.

Cada usuario hace de su “muro” o “perfil”, según la red social, su gobierno propio. Los enemigos existen, y si no se inventan porque se necesitan. Por ello el acceso a un perfil es permitido sólo a un grupo de personas, que cada quien acepta o confirma.

En este mundo lúdico-real la riqueza no se mide por la cantidad de dinero sino por territorialidad. Porque no es rico quien tiene más, sino quien influye más en la tribu (quien conquista más: territorio, amigos, nombres o identidad).

Fb no es la vida “corriente” o la vida “propiamente dicha”. Más bien consiste en escaparse hacia una esfera temporal de actividad que posee una tendencia propia. El punto es que la realidad Fb abarca el espíritu, la cultura, el instinto de la naturaleza humana; todas ellas condiciones para hacer leyes y políticas públicas “inteligentes” acorde a lo que somos y no leyes acorde a lo que deberíamos ser.

Por todo lo anterior, no debe sorprendernos que haya 300,000,000 de personas en Fb. Pues su regla fundamental es el consentimiento. La libertad sólo limitada por el daño ajeno. La conquista consensuada. La verdadera aldea global.

Este fin de semana

vino parte de la familia desde Castellón a vernos en nuestro estreno en directo con “Harold & Blúm”. Claro que echamos de menos al resto, pero confiamos en que puedan verlo en breve.

Estamos contentos. Francamente.

Fue un fin de semana emocionante, en todos los sentidos.

Y creo que lo mejor es que los más sorprendidos por la solución de todas las cosas fuimos Ángela y yo.

Y es que sobre el papel, siendo uno el propio juez de su trabajo, se suele pecar de optimismo o de vanidad. No creo, de todos modos, que fuese nuestro caso.

Hemos sido bastante humildes, precavidos y minuciosos con la preparación tanto teórica como formal del espectáculo “Injertos”.

Aunque sí es cierto que careciendo de opinión ajena sobre el espectáculo, pues nos tenía un poco nerviosos la materialización del resultado encima de un escenario.

Era la primera vez que lo hacíamos, claro.

Y es que sucede pues que debe ser el criterio de los otros lo que nos da tanto la confianza y seguridad como la necesaria validación de lo que hacemos.

Porque, claro, todo espectáculo, igual que toda obra artística, se hace para un público, que es al fin quien lo juzga, disfruta y sanciona.

El resultado, pues, parece justificar todo nuestro trabajo.

De todos modos, lo importante fue que Ángela y yo disfrutamos con ello. Caso contrario carecería del menor sentido.

Aunque si he de hacer una confesión, yo creo que estuve mucho mejor el sábado que el viernes. Ángela estuvo esplendorosa los dos días.

Prometo mejorar para la próxima vez que vengan a vernos.

Y, por supuesto, muchísimas gracias a todos los que estuvisteis allí. Sin vosotros, esto no tendría el menor significado.

Es curioso, llevo tiempo observándolo. Me refiero a la mecánica del insulto y el oprobio. El vilipendio anónimo y el grito cáustico.

Lo mencioné el otro día, como al pasar, respecto a lo que sucede en Facebook, que un poco viene a evidenciar esta tendencia, si es que así se pudiera llamar, o estado de cosas.

El caso es que el Macba propone ahora una exposición llamada “Modernologies” que parece querer (re)situar las ilusiones nunca alcanzadas del modernismo, sugiere no tanto su recuperación sino su continuación.

Yo ya escribí un ensayo y varios textos críticos al respecto hace varios años al hilo de haber conocido en Valencia los trabajos sobre la transmodernidad de la filósofa Rosa María Rodriguez Magda.

Mi punto de vista es muy sencillo: el postmodernismo no es una solución sino tan sólo un paréntesis. Una parada para tomar aire, si se quiere. Y así deberíamos valorarlo. Algo necesario pero forzosamente coyuntural.

El problema, a mi modo de entender, es que el (post)modernismo teórico es fascinante y provocador, pero no así sus prácticas. Sus prácticas son miméticas. Y una teoría no puede seguir con los mismos diseños que perpetra destituir de la vigencia artística.

Es muy sencillo: las aplicaciones (post)modernas han resultados decepcionantes respecto a sus postulados.

No es raro entonces encontrar una vuelta a las vanguardias.

Es algo que ya formuló Frederick Jameson: que el postmodernismo copia la lógica del capitalismo, por lo tanto no es apto para la confrontación, que es la tarea primera del arte.

Da heutzutage fast jedes Handy Videos in guter oder besserer Qualität aufnehmen kann und iPods, die nur Musik (Bild: Copyright Apple)                                                         wiedergeben können, mit der Zeit langweilig werden würden (jeder Produkt-Lebenszyklus steuert ja schließlich einmal seinem Ende entgegen), hat Apple also nun auch seinem beliebten Musikplayer eine Videokamera spendiert.

Und was für eine! Während das iPhone über eine Kamera mit 3 Mio. Megapixeln besitzt, nimmt der iPod nano H.264 Videos in einer Auflösung von 640 x 480 Pixeln auf. Immerhin Videos im H.264-Format – doch bei einer Auflösung von 640 x 480 nutzt das auch nicht viel. Ernsthaft, auch die billigsten Handys, die zur Zeit in Zusammenhang mit einem Vertrag auf dem Markt zu haben sind, verfügen bereits über mindestens 2 Megapixel.

Neben der Kamerabeschreibung, liefern liefern uns die Produktseiten auch zur Kamerabenutzung eine nützliche Beschreibung:

„Blätter durch das Menü zur Videokamera und schon kannst du Videos im Hoch- oder Querformat aufnehmen – ideal zum Mailen oder Posten auf Facebook oder MobileMe. Mit dem integrierten Mikro kannst du auch Ton aufnehmen. Wenn du dann dein Video auf dem iPod nano abspielst, hörst du den Ton gleich dazu. Damit wird dein Immer-dabei-Musikplayer zur Immer-dabei-Videokamera.“

Interessant ist der Hinweis, Videos im Hoch- und Querformat aufnehmen zu können – auf den ersten Blick hielt ich das für selbstverständlich. Wer würde von sich aus nicht auf die Idee kommen, eine Kamera entweder ins Hoch- oder Querformat zu drehen? Doch hier habe ich wohl aus Sicht eines Hobby-Videoschneiders gedacht und mich nicht in die Situation eines jungen, hippen Menschen mit iPod nano versetzt, der keine Zeit für die Bearbeitung verschwenden möchte, sondern Videos schnellstmöglichst auf YouTube oder Facebook laden möchte. Gerade deshalb wurden wohl auch 15 Videoeffekte in den iPod integriert, die man direkt während der Aufnahme „einschalten“ kann. Interessant. Genauso interessant ist zudem, dass der iPod nano nicht nur das Video selbst, sondern auch dessen Audio abspielen kann.

Mein Fazit: Wer nach einem Musikplayer sucht, der einen guten Klang hat und stylish aussieht, für den ist die neue Generation des iPod nano bestimmt das Richtige. Wer sich allerdings das neue Modell nur wegen der Kamera kaufen möchte, sollte sich doch besser einfach ein neues Handy holen – mit dem kann man dann sogar telefonieren.

Login Facebook dengan Alamat FB Anda

Beberapa waktu lalu Facebook mengeluarkan sebuah fitur untuk mempersonalisasi alamat Facebook sesuai keinginan pengguna semisal  http://www.facebook.com/namaAnda. Kali ini Facebook menambahkan kembali sebuah fitur dimana Anda bisa login dengan menggunakan alamat Anda tersebut. Dimana sebelumnya untuk login menggunakan alamat email.

Contohnya seperti ini, alamat Facebook Anda adalah http://www.facebook.com/cewekmanismenawansekali. Anda bisa login ke Facebook bisa dengan alamat Anda yaitu: cewekmanismenawansekali dan passwordnya sesuai password Anda.

Jadi Anda bisa login dengan menggunakan email ataupun menggunakan alamat url Facebook Anda.

White House Collects Web Users' Data 'Without Notice'

Social-media messages go into archives

The White House is collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube without notifying or asking the consent of the site users, a failure that appears to run counter to President Obama’s promise of a transparent government and his pledge to protect privacy on the Internet.

Marc Rotenberg, president of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said the White House signaled that it would insist on open dealings with Internet users and, in fact, should feel obliged to disclose that it is collecting such information.

“The White House has not been adequately transparent, particularly on how it makes use of new social media techniques, such as this example,” he said.

I use email.  For purposes of this study I am using only by GMAIL account.  A few selected associates have been given my GMAIL address.  Our company uses an answering service – they have my GMAIL address.  I used it many months ago when I filled out a survey at Chili’s restaurant.  So that’s it.

Dirty Dancing in the heavens

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) — Patrick Swayze, whose good looks and sympathetic performances in films such as “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” made him a romantic idol to millions, died Monday. He was 57.

Swayze died of pancreatic cancer, his publicist, Annett Wolf, told CNN.

Swayze’s doctor, Dr. George Fisher, revealed in early March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from the disease.

“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” Wolf said in a statement Monday.

Most recently, Swayze starred in A&E Network’s “The Beast,” which debuted in January. He agreed to take the starring role of an undercover FBI agent before his diagnosis.

Will Yahoo Meme Kill Twitter ?

Yahoo has quietly announced Yahoo Meme microblogging service in English after its soft launch in Spanish and Portuguese. Similar to few microblogging services like Tumblr, Twitter, Pownce and others, Meme is currently in an invite-only mode. Once the account is created after receiving invitation, users get a blank blog for micro-sharing text, images, music, videos or mash up of all these things.

Registration is simple and gives a Meme URL based on Username like http://meme.yahoo.com/Username. That s just like Twitter and  offers Username URLs.

Meme s setting panel has minimal options like Meme title, 100 character Description, avatar/photo and notifications. Along with that, Meme also offers page layout customization with Themes. On the Meme page, users can post text, photos, videos and all together for sharing with other users. Just like Twitter and Tumblr users do, Meme users can search for other users using the Find option on the top of the page and Follow them to receive their Meme updates.

Generational Causality

So when an era of flash media and snapshot advertising was blamed for making the youth suffer from ADD and ADHD, its hyperactive cousin, I managed to slip through the cracks.

However, when I try and write, I look for my outlets first instead of writing first, and I have began to see that as a great flaw.  I long to divorce the ideas of Reading and Writing and live my life for that if for no other purpose.  I am a writer, yet I do not read.  There are many reasons.  I don’t want to read something that is terrible, but I won’t find out until it is too late.   I don’t want to subconsciously emulate the author I just read (happens to me far too much).  I can’t concentrate without making plans to do so, so reading is a big task for me.

I’ve decided instead to find out how I live my life as a writer, and expand upon those discoveries.  The things that I want to write about are usually bits of wisdom mixed with a personal reflection about some sort of past, present, and future self.  I used to write poems that tried to embody individual emotions, and collected them in an anthology.  Writing for me is just thoughts that I want to hold on to for a bit longer, and then release them in a very large unexplored fishery where they tend to sink to the floor.

The environ I wish to explore is the social media/networking site “Facebook.” I found that I use my status updates not because I want everyone on my friends list to know what I’m thinking, but merely to embody a thought that I’m having.  It is a very safe outlet.  If I come across someone else’s status and it speaks well, I’ll tend to comment or like upon it.

So my example is utmost recent occurring.  I was returning from the store with one bag of groceries in each hand just shy of 10 at night.  I have not showered, brushed my teeth, given much regard to anything outside my own hunger.  I have donned a long-sleeve black hoody that reads “stay the fuck away from me” it not so many words, pulled the hood over my brow line, fixed an expression of complete apathy on my face.  I survived the supermarket and got all my goods with minimal human interaction.  (Trying not to assimilate Dexter, mind you, tho it is on my mind).  So it is late and I’m walking alongside the harbor where the boats are parked and there are couples (blech…) walking together on a pleasant cool eve.  Some with kids, some without.  The see me and clear the walkway so their whispers won’t be overheard.  I respond by decompressing the abundant pressure in my bowels.

Ahead I hear the whimperings of a baby and I can see the stroller in the distance.  Much closer there is an adorable 2-3 year old with curly hair standing less than 2 feet high smiling at me.  It was dark out, but the port lights and cityscape cast enough to reflect off of her toothy grin.  She says “Hi.”  It was that voice that indicates a clear command of the word’s meaning and the beginning of vowel-sound acknowledgment.  My cover is blown.  My smile comes back right away, and I am now Bruce Wayne dressed as Batman.  It’s awkward, but no one knows who I am but her.  She can’t see my presentation, but she sees the truth.  Her parents have no idea how far away she has strayed yet, and in this moment I’m ready.  I know innately within what are the great truths for me, and I don’t need nature to mock me.  How long do I have to wait to have some daughters?

So I say “Hiiiii.” And she says “Hi.”  And I smile and never break stride.  My lingering thought is “I hope she’s not following me home/I hope she’s following me.”

Dammit.

Is MySpace Coming Back?

I really have to ask myself this question, and I sign up for a Pimp-My-Profile account at 2:30 AM on a Friday night. I know people don’t use it anymore and I hardly check into it. But lately I’m kind of over Facebook.

FB is cool for old friends and people you don’t know… but… if you want to hear some new music, connect with some interesting creators,or just have a place where people can interact with the stuff you are making, well, MySpace kind of rocks.

It’s tools have gotten a lot better, ala wanting to compete with FB, even if a little late. That being said, I am having a lot of fun making a profile, linking with interesting musicians and connecting with other creators.

La adiccion, el vicio y el morbo, nos consume a cada uno de nosotros, volviendonos dependientes de una red social, para espiar a el levante, para insultar a la bazofia que por alguna razon no entra en tu ciruculo social o simplemente para ver fotos y asi convertirnos en CyberEnfermos, pero como a cada cochino le llega su sabado o asado como digas tu, estas redes que nos ofrecen sus servidores pecaminosos para complacernos tambien les llega la hora de pasar de moda, o simplemente, Llega uno mas arrecho y se jode el otro. Vamos a tiempos atras, un celular con camara era la senzacion del momento y tu estabas emocionado por que tenias tu hi5 y le rogabas a todos tus amigos que te dejaran los famosos Fives (Descripcion ilustrada de lo que sentia hacia ti) y un comentario en tu muro, para asi tener mas visitas y ser una diva virtual, el hi5 comenzó como un espacio para ver todo lo que hacian tus amigos, pero, luego, la cagaron, podias poner tu papel tapiz, unas flores con escarcha, un monito puyando globos, dibujar en el muro y esto vino en conjunto de la manada de los Keiben y Gleitelzys, poco a poco se fue invadiendo, y de repente, FACEBOOK, fue el iceberg que hundio al Titanic De Hi5, Facebook, ofrecía un diseño clasico, test moderados, fotos y etiquetas, y era un sueño echo realidad, poco a poco la gente lo fue conociendo y a la hamburgesa Facebook le pusieron queso, una version que a nadie le gustaba era dificil de manejar, no sabias donde estaban los test que habias echo en la version vieja, las chapitas que habias coleccionado, todo lo perdiste, y luego salieron vegetales a la hamburgesa, 1001 aplicaciones volviendolo mas El Nintendo Facebook, la gente subia fotos de Winnie pooh y etiquetaban, y asi fue, Pet Society, Restaurant City, Brain no se que mierda,  Y ASI FUE CRECIENDO, y le dieron la facilidad de crear aplicaciones a cualquier percusio y se creo: La galleta de la suerte, una galleta que te decia lo que te venia, por ejemplo:

Be Good to People

In a world where words and phrases such as “recession”, “record job losses” and “trillion dollar deficits” seem to overtake the evening news, any time I hear of something good, something that reaffirms my faith in people, I’m all for shouting it from the rooftops.  Are you listening, because I’m making my way to my roof!  I have found a website that is all about doing good – whether it’s doing good for others around us or doing good for our environment, Be Good To People.™ is working for the greater “good”. 

I love this site partly because of the cool merchandise it offers – and especially the tees, but I also love it because of the efforts this group of folks make on a daily basis.  Part of their business plan is to take a percentage of their profits in an effort to “spread the good”. 

From what I’ve been able to discern, the company president, along with a small group of others, make all the decisions on how these funds are spent.  Of course, it’s always important to acknowledge the larger charitable foundations – I’m always in awe of the power of these groups; but the BGTP team seems to have an excellent formula for getting funds to folks who might be struggling with everyday problems.  They’re eliminating much of the red tape associated with the act of giving.  This, of course, ensures there are no delays in making these contributions count the most.  I can’t imagine a better foundation from which to build one’s faith from. 

If you get a chance, head over to the BGTP site and see for yourself and while you’re at it, they have a Facebook page too.  There are some inspirational stories to be found if we’re willing to see them.  I’m going to take my recently recharged faith and see how I can become a Good Doer today.

2degrees facebook case study

I’m glad to be able to announce that we’ve got our shit together and produced a documented case study of our successes with facebook for 2degrees.

It’s been amazingly nice to get props from people like Chris Keall from NBR and Andy Blood from TBWA about the work we’ve done in social media for 2degrees, and we thought we should put something together to showcase the work and explain some of what we’ve learned.

Naturally some of the info is proprietary to us and 2degrees, so it’s not available at this stage for download. We are working on a cut down which hopefully we can release to media and post here for everyone, but if you are keen to understand how we brought 2degrees to life, how to develop bespoke, brand based facebook applications, how to leverage facebook communities in both paid and earned media, manage communities and generally build a super engaged base of brand advocates for your project, drop us a note. Facebook for iPhone 3.0, which was submitted to Apple 11 days ago, has just been approved and is now available in the App Store.

The new version, which we reviewed in detail last week, brings a bevy of new features to Facebook’s iPhone app, including commenting and likes in the News Feed, full support for Facebook Pages, new and improved navigation, events and RSVPs, video uploading, complete photo management, notes, and more. Push notifications will not be released until version 3.1. Overall, it looks fantastic.

Now that the new version is released, we expect to see many more Facebook Page administrators updating their Pages through their iPhones, many more mobile videos posted to user profiles, and much more feed interaction (comments and likes) happening while users are on the go.

Facebook for iPhone is of the most heavily used iPhone applications ever – nearly 12 million people around the world have used it in the last month.

Facebook: Internet Shopping for Burglars

Through MSNBC, I recently found the results of a study by Legal & General, which found that 38% of Facebook and Twitter users post information about upcoming vacations. In addition, the study found that 13% of Facebook friends and 92% of Twitter followers are accepted by complete strangers. The study also found that young people (16-24 year-olds) were most likely to share detailed vacation plans through social media. But not only are people posting their vacation plans—practically out on the open—they are also raving about all the new stuff they just bought when they were gone, like a new flat-screen TV, iPhone, or laptop.

What this boils down to is an environment ripe for criminals to find out when you will be out of the house and exactly what to steal—right from their own couch. Criminals no longer have to troll neighborhoods looking for mailboxes bursting with mail, all they have to do is follow people on Twitter or Friend them on Facebook, and they’ll know exactly who to hit and when.

Fight Identity Theft also just publish a story covering the ways that Facebook quiz developers can access your profile and your friend’s profiles when you agree to take a quiz made by them. Says the California ACLU:

“Even if your Facebook profile is ‘private,’ when you take a quiz, an unknown quiz developer could be accessing almost everything in your profile: your religion, sexual orientation, political affiliation, pictures, and groups. Facebook quizzes also have access to most of the info on your friends’ profiles. This means that if your friend takes a quiz, they could be giving away your personal information too.”

What should your strategy be?

• Don’t share anything online that you don’t want any stranger to see. If you don’t want strangers to call you, don’t post your phone number—it’s that simple.
• Check your social media privacy settings. Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites allow you to set security levels—use them!
• Don’t broadcast to the world every time you leave the house. You may want people to know you’ll be out of town, but if it is really important for them to know, you can always send them an email or give them a call.
• Bragging about big item purchases is a no-no. Do you walk through the mall telling everyone that you just bought the latest, greatest, fastest, $5,000 laptop? If not, then don’t do it online either. If someone is looking to steal one, you’ll be at the top of their list.

Facebook é come il bar sotto casa, con l’insegna squallida, le paste antiche in bella mostra, i tavolini di plastica con parti di giornale del giorno prima, il baldacchino delle gomme con un bello strato di polvere e il barrista di nome Aldo che si scaccola spudoratamente mentre ti prepara il caffè…

…anzi no, è come il locale piú in del momento, posizione ideale in pieno centro, non ci parcheggi neanche se moccoli in vietnamita, ci trovi la potta fresca che in realtà è solo scongelata di fresco, ci trovi il vip di passaggio, e lo chiami vip solo perché è appena uscito dal grande fratello, ma è il locale in cui ci trovi tutti, tra un negroni e una capirinha, spilluzzichi i salatini e le olive, fai due chiacchiere con la barrista che manco a dirlo sfoggia una scollatura nella quale s’intravede l’ombelico…

…anzi no, facebook come la partita di pallone, la curva dei tifosi; stai scomodo, non vedi un cazzo e rischi anche di prenderne…

Facebook è il social network della massa, e inevitabilmente ti tocca andarci se non vuoi rimanere con i tre contatti di Imeem o i cinque sfigati di Ning. Ma ragazzi, posso dirvelo con sincerità, così mi sfogo…. È FATTO MALE!!!!

Band Profile: Snowing

I stumbled upon these guys from an article on punknews.org, and I’m glad I did. Snowing is a quartet out of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, and they seem deeply into the Pennsylvania emo thing. Which, these days seems to be a resurgence of the kind of cataclysmic catharsis that Cap’n Jazz and early Promise Ring. It’s been swirling through the sounds of fellow PAers Algernon Cadwallader and the pre-Snowing band Street Smart Cyclist. It’s pretty immediate and just as forward thinking as anything else coming out these days.

You can grab their EP, Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit, for free on If You Make It. Below is the song “Sam Rudich,” the EP opener, and, by from what I’ve deduced from the band’s Facebook page, the name of a friend of the band members. Take a listen.

Spell Yacht

I would often play Guess The Sketch (GTS) Challenge on Facebook these days against my sister Kulot, her classmates, and my Man. We would often have such a grand time that every round ends up with us having stomachaches from too much laughing. It was so much fun that there would be times when Kulot would open her account and her classmates would ask for me so that we could play GTS already. LOL

On one particularly fun game, it was my turn to draw and the word was yacht. What was funny was that they knew what the word was but could not spell it correctly! I was dead on the floor laughing my lungs out. The kids would spell yatch, yates, yatee, yate, yatch, yate yan eh di ko lang alam spell! [that is a yacht, i just don't know how to spell yacht correctly!] – everything but the correct one!

The best part about it is that you could tease them endlessly about their blunders – either when they misspell a word or cannot guess an obvious one after everybody in the room has already done so.

But more than that, I think it is the bonding that we create which is most special, especially that my sister is an adolescent, the knowledge that I am a part of her life, and a fun one at that as attested by her peers, is what would definitely keep me drawing hands that look like edematous bananas in GTS, possibly for a long time.

Facebook sedang dalam masalah besar. Situs jejaring sosial itu dituntut, karena foto mengerikan muncul dihalamannya.

Pengacara AS Ravi Batra menuntut Facebook karena muncul foto Caroline Wimmer (26) yang menjadi korban kejahatan. Selain Facebook, Batra juga menuntut Kota New York, Polisi New York (NYPD) dan komisaris pemadam kebakaran.

Batra mewakili orang tua Wimmer yang menuntut kontrol lebih ketat terhadap munculnya foto-foto di Facebook.

“Facebook harus mencari jalan untuk mematuhi hukum atau akan ditutup,” kata Batra seperti dikutip dari FOXNews.

Tubuh Wimmer ditemukan pada 30 Maret oleh orang tuanya, dua hari setelah dipukuli secara brutal dan dicekik.

Pensiunan detektif NYPD Frank Musarella (46) yang dituduh mengambil foto mayat Wimmer. Dia mengambil foto dengan kamera ponselnya serta mempostingnya di Facebook. Dia dituntut menyalahi aturan dan menghadapi empat tahun penjara.

Batra mengatakan Facebook bersalah karena meloloskan foto Wimmer dipublikasikan di servernya. Hingga kini tidak jelas berapa orang yang telah melihat foto itu.

Tapi pakar hukum internet Parry Aftab yang menjalankan WiredSafety.org menyatakan Facebook dilindungi oleh Communications Decency Act 1996. Aturan itu memberikan 1.000% kekebalan, seperti Pos yang tidak bertanggung jawab jika ada orang yang mengirim materi pornografi lewat jasanya.

City Council Member Responding to Buju Banton Show

Facebook comments are still flowing about Buju.  A reader sent us his e-mail to Richmond City Councilwoman Ellen Robertson with her response.  She copied the Chief of Police and the Mayor’s office to setup a meeting regarding the National’s show.

Good morning Ms. Robertson;

I am writing to you today for the same reason that I am sure you have received many other emails, to express my discomfort and anger towards the upcoming Buju Banton concert at The National, in downtown Richmond. As a tax payer, Richmond business supporter, gay man, and someone who cares for this city – my stomach is in knots that this type of show is being help in my city.

I do believe that all people have the right of freedom of speech. I also believe that those who do not agree with homosexuality have the right to share the discussion. What I do not believe in, is paying someone and endorsing an act (which by having him perform at the National and doing any types of advertising they are endorsing him) that goes beyond freedom of speech to the call of violence and death against members of the human race, is not acceptable and bad business.

What I also fear is that if this concert does happen that the protest that occurs (and there will be a protest of this show) will turn violent. Richmond does not need that type of media attention, nor does the National, which has always allowed diverse acts perform. I also fear for the National after the show. This concert has struck a chord in the greater Richmond area – moving far beyond just the gay community. There has already been damage done to the reputation of the National – people have already decided to boycott the theater. It only makes me sad to think of the boycott/ reaction that occurs if the theater does not cancel this show.

Thank you for your time. I hope that you are able to speak with the people at the National to let them know that this concert is unacceptable and that it has outraged the people of our city.

The following was Robertson’s response:

I cannot afford to set and allow this group to come to town. I will be asking the Chief of Police to meet with me and the owners of the National to address the urgency of this matter. By way of this email, John will follow up with the Mayor and Chief to coordinate a meeting.

Where does the time go?

I can’t believe how long it haw been since I have posted here. I spend quite a bit of time on facebok, probably to much

I am trying to live more on purpose these days. Not sure how well that is going, but I am keeping at it.

I am tired of computers, or at least fixing them. I can’t stand email. Twitter and facebook seem to be the only things I use regularly online anymore.

I love google voice and hope to see it released for the iPhone soon.

My wife has been doing very well with her P90X routine, I hope to incorporate it into my daily routine again. I love the AdvoCare supplements and the Lean in 13 eating plan with P90X. Sarah isseeing some awesome results.

So much going on these days, but I will save that for a future post.
